DUTY OF BUSHFIRE CARE

If there’s one thing that gets members of the Bushfire Front “fired up”, it’s when they hear
people grizzle when their property is not instantly saved from a raging bushfire by hard-
working fire fighters, or when people argue that prescribed burning doesn’t stop bushfires and
is a waste of time and money. (Prescribed burning doesn’t necessarily stop bushfires, but it
slows them down and makes them a hell of a lot easier and safer for fire fighters to control.)
These people, in our opinion, have little or no understanding of fire management, nor do they
appreciate the risk that firefighters, including volunteers, face when they go to work. Our
latest four-page brochure (see here) details how we all have a duty of care, from the Premier
of our State down to individual property owners, to help mitigate the scourge of summer
bushfires.
